Resumen del Editor

Working in a world where a college degree qualifies her to make photocopies and color-coordinate file folders, 24-year-old Girl is struggling to keep up with the essential trinity of food, shelter, and student loans. So when she finally lands the job of her dreams, she ignores her misgivings and concentrates on getting the job done...whatever that may be.

Sharply observed and devastatingly funny, Citizen Girl captures what it means to be young and female in the new economy. A personal glimpse into an impersonal world, Citizen Girl is edgy and heartfelt, an entertaining story that is startlingly relevant.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Many, many funny lines....Girl's job-hunting woes will resonate with lots of readers." (Kirkus Reviews)
"Not only will this latest comic adventure appeal to the thousands of less-than-affluent urbanites who laughed through the duo's best-selling debut, The Nanny Diaries, but it would also seem to be a natural for young working women dealing with crazy bosses and shifting job descriptions." (Boston Globe)
"McLaughlin and Kraus deftly satirize postfeminist, postmodern, 21st-century America, using management jargon and hipster slang with equal precision....The authors have conjured up a vision of America that's just this side of dystopian, and their funhouse-mirror worldview generates its own strange suspense." Weak plot, hard to follow

Was disappointed since I loved the authors' other books. It could be because this was an abridged version, but I found the plot very weak and hard to follow. The characters' generic names like "Girl", "Guy", "Rex", "Manly" reeked of a college MFA project where the author was trying to be unique, but they fell short. Kept waiting for the plot elements to tie together to make me root for the protagonist, yet it never happened.

no idea what this was about

I enjoyed the entertainment value of the Nanny Diaries, but this book was completely lacking in entertainment. Half way through the book I began to wonder when the story would begin, and when it was over I wondered why I wasted so much time listening. The authors reading style was hard to follow, and although the book was face paced it was so fast that the you could barely figure out what was going on before the story took a 180. I'm still trying to figure out what the title of the book had to do with the story.

Tedious and Annoying

Ugh. This book was painful to finish. I loved Nanny Diaries and Nanny Returns, but this book had none of the interesting characters and none of the depth. It is merely a profanity-laced read about a few months in the life of a wimpy so-called young feminist, which is a joke since the entire book she just gets pushed around by every single person she comes across. None of the characters have likeable qualities. Most of them are detestable, and at best a few are annoying. If it weren't short, and I wasn't doing yardwork, I never would have finished it.

SOOOO disapointing!!!

I have read Nanny Diaries three times... and each time I laugh more. This book was a huge flop- extremely disappointing. PLEASE DON'T GET IT!!! "Plot" if you can call it that, is tedious and hard to follow. There are no redeemable moments. Girl is an obnoxious and forgettable character, surrounding by co- characters of jerks, wimps and utterly indistinguishable people. Hopefully the witty team that brought us their first offering of Nanny will turn up again, because there is no trace of them in this pathetic offering.

tedious

This (audio)book went on and on and on. And that says a lot for an abridged book. And it seemed to end midsentence with no conclusion. The plot had a lot of potential -- work/relationship challenges facing a recent college grad in a big city. The authors seemed to get too caught up in the message and miss the plot. Tedious, tiresome, and trite

Girl enters the

Ok Girl. Nobody cares. Really. This story of "Girl" and her romp through the world of techno-business was whiny and tedious and somewhere beyond believeable. It may look like The Nanny Diaries on the surface, but where there was humor and gossip in that one, there's, well, nothing much here.
