When Elizabeth Shaffer’s family came to the United States from Britain, she hadn’t expected to grow up to be struggling to find love. Her father, a cobbler in Washington, D.C., is as successful as he can manage alone. Elizabeth helps, but her father never puts his business above their happiness – which is more than she can say for some people in Washington, D.C.

Westley Anderson is a judge for a small town in California. He put an ad out in The Matrimonial Times to find a wife before he moved to California, but it hasn’t gone well so far. Most women are searching to get away from a bad engagement or to get away from a bad situation. Westley wants a woman who will be a go-getter and is not going to wait until the last minute to do anything.

The two worlds collide when Elizabeth writes to Westley in June. She wants to leave Washington, D.C. and is hoping that through their letters, he will come to believe that she will be the right match for him.

But she hides a secret. There is trouble brewing for her in Washington, D.C. She must make a choice: does she tell Westley Anderson once she’s earned his trust, or does she hope it all goes away?

And does her choice mean the end of her happy life with her father, or does Westley find a way to balance it all?

Narration is off

Couldn’t get far into the story because the narration was just…off. Timing was weird and it kept me from really getting into the plot.
