Skip the First Chapter

Where does Chicken Soup for the Soul: Runners - 31 Stories on Starting Out, Running Therapy and Camaraderie rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

A bit corney at times, but good company. Skip the first chapter so you don't get a bad taste when the author of the chapter tries to make a hero of his Dad for bandit running Boston. Most runners would look at that as being a liar and a cheat. Other chapters make you smile.

I really enjoyed this book

This book is a great motivational tool. I love listening to other people's stories on how they started running. If you are interested in running then there is no better way to find out more about the subject than listening to people tell their stories.

nice listen

I have enjoyed listening to people personal stories as to why they run. It isn't very long, but maybe that is for the best. It could inspire a runner who is listening to it while running to keep moving. What I liked about it is that it involves regular people, like us.

A Little Too Litle

O am a runner and I bought this book to hear running stories. There were a few stories I really liked, some that were okay and some that didn't seem worth much. Overall I wanted more good stories.

Kind of disappointing

I was kind of disapointed in this book, because I have liked most of the Chicken Soup books. I just thought these stories tended to be more predictable than inspiring. I did like the story about running with geezers and the one about the blind runner's guide, though. They gave me a little bit of a different perspective.

Good listen to inspire me during my runs

What made the experience of listening to Chicken Soup for the Soul: Runners - 31 Stories on Starting Out, Running Therapy and Camaraderie the most enjoyable?

I'm a novice runner and I found listening to this audiobook inspiring during my runs. I also liked that it wasn't a big deal if I 'spaced out' and missed out on part of a story as a new one would start in a few minutes. I didn't have to worry about missing an important plot detail.

What other book might you compare Chicken Soup for the Soul: Runners - 31 Stories on Starting Out, Running Therapy and Camaraderie to and why?

It's similar to all the other Chicken Soup for the Soul books. It was like Born to Run in terms of being a good book to listen to while running. Although Born to Run is a single story not a bunch of smaller ones, they're both great for runners.

Which character – as performed by Christina Traister and Dan John Miller – was your favorite?

Can't remember a favourite.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I liked the story about the boy who watched his father run and how that repeated itself with his own kids when he grew up. It made me hope that my running now will inspire my kids to be runners.

Not particularly inspiring, mostly boring.

What was most disappointing about the authors’s story?

I haven't finished the audiobook because everytime I attempt to I find myself increasingly agitated by the stories and end up switching to another audiobook. The stories have been thus far almost wholly banal and often grating. The stories are about average people who hated exercising and then started running, and lo and behold, discovered despite themselves that they enjoyed it. This is the great insight from each story and gets boring quickly. They are the types of stories you expect to see in the pages of Self magazine or some other publication cashing in from the weight loss industry. But at least in those pages you'd get the fun of before and after pictures.
