Purchased this for my recent trip to Chichen Itza. I found it very informative and perfect for the bus ride from Playa Del Carmen to Chichen Itza. The narrators are kinda cheesy, but at least they are not monotone.
**Added bonus/fun fact, if you enjoy Karl Pilkington’s “An Idiot Abroad” you’ll be pleased to know this is what he was listening to at the site.

Tour guid alternative

We listened to this while in the ruins and it was great! Definitely refer to the accompanying PDF because otherwise you’ll have no idea where you are supposed be for what they are saying. Pretty great information, it was hard to know exactly what they were referencing when they described the pictographs but that’s the nature of the beast.
There are a few different locations you can no longer access which is a bummer, but fun to learn about them regardless!
It is a bit cheesy with the background noises but honestly easy to block out, also good to crack a smile when talking about dark things like human sacrifice.

Terrible in all aspects

What disappointed you about Chichen Itza?

Very basic information at a child's level. Interspersed with voices speaking from the past which was unsophisticated and annoying.

What was most disappointing about TekTrek’s story?

Background music and sound effects were so loud they often drowned out the narrator.

Would you be willing to try another one of TekTrek’s performances?

Yes, but only if I get my credit back on this.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Learned a little. Maybe 15 minutes of useful information.

You should pull this title. Not up to your standards.
