Spencer Manning - A Name to Remember

This book was recommended to me some time ago, but it sat on my shelf until the audio version was released. Soon after starting, I noticed that I looked forward to my drives a bit more for my time with Spencer Manning. I am generally slow to accept new characters and a new series, but I felt immediately comfortable in the world of Spencer Manning. Part of it is that so many of the characters (including Spencer) are kind and likeable, The author, Rick Polad, also does a fantastic job conveying a mood. Whether it is a Chicago jazz club, a romantic dinner on a bluff overlooking lake Michigan, or sitting in an attic with a lonely older woman all too happy to share her fondest memories, the book, the story is rich with visual descriptions that made me feel like I was a fly on the wall. Most importantly, it's also a great story...logically solid, it doles out enough clues to make the solution plausible. What's more, it includes twists and complexities that make this an enjoyable, solid mystery as well. While Rex Stout isn't around to write any more Nero Wolfe stories, I'm happy to have Spencer Manning to accompany on my drives around town. I'm looking forward to the next book!
