Monique, a beautiful monarch butterfly who loves nectar more than anything, narrowly escapes human butterfly catchers while migrating to Mexico with her flock. She hides in a crack in the ground, but moments later finds herself falling into an enormous cave that is home to caterpillars of all ages—caterpillars who don’t turn into butterflies because they’ve been brainwashed to think that they’re worms! Desperate to find her way out, she teams up with a rebellious “changing” caterpillar named Charley, and together they begin their dangerous journey back to the Outside World and freedom.

This adventure story is profound and dramatically narrated. Monique, a beautiful but ditzy monarch butterfly, faces an awakening when she discovers a subterranean world ruled by a horrible moth queen who prevents young caterpillars from changing in order to use them as workers. When Monique sees young Charley in trouble, she has to decide whether to help him escape past multiple obstacles. As he helps her find her way, she frees him and herself as well. Both discover meaning in life, beyond Charley's dull, prescribed existence and Monique's former life, simply flitting along with friends and finding the sweetest nectar. For children and adults of all ages.

Caterpillarland is charming, thoughtful, and full of heart. The author, Roxanne Beck, creates a gentle, imaginative world that invites children to trust the journey of growth and change. (She also narrates the book beautifully!)

Monique, the lead butterfly, is a wonderful female protagonist. She shows that strength can be kind, leadership can be gentle, and believing in yourself truly matters. Her story is empowering without being heavy-handed.

The visuals leap off the page, and I can easily imagine Caterpillarland coming to life on screen as an animated family film. It has that rare blend of warmth, imagination, and emotional clarity.

A sweet, uplifting read that children will return to and adults will appreciate."

Touching and Inspiring!

We need more inspiring stories for kids that inspire them to be their true selves. This story does just that beautifully. The narration is so animated and alive on the audio version - I think kids would really enjoy the way the story is told. I highly, highly recommend this for kids and parents who want to bring inspiration into their children's' lives!
