Emily Camp
The Suspect of the most recent homicide? Yeah, Zoe knows him. He’s been her crush for years. Zoe is always the responsible one. She picks up shifts when her mom is too sick to work. She helps with her younger siblings as well as attends community college full time. But Zoe has one weakness: her boss’s son, Case.
When he pulls her into a bush on her way to work, covered in blood and begging for help, she can’t walk away. Determined to prove his innocence, Zoe breaks rules, lies, and ignores warnings to discover what really happened. Will her feelings for Case cloud her judgment, putting not only herself but her family in danger? All for a boy who may not be telling the truth.

Emily did a great job weaving in the backstory for Zoe and Case, adding real depth to their characters. The tension between them is palpable—you can feel it in every interaction. It added an extra layer of intrigue beyond the central mystery.
One of my favorite aspects was how skillfully Emily handled the suspects. There were four or five strong possibilities, and just when I thought I had narrowed it down to three, the story cleverly shifted my suspicions—if only for a moment. I love it when a mystery keeps me second-guessing myself, and this one absolutely did.
Zoe’s determination to uncover the truth and get answers kept me fully invested. And that last page? The cliffhanger! I truly thought everything was wrapping up neatly and that I could take a break before starting book two… but I was very wrong. I will be picking up the next book very soon!
Fantastic Mystery
