Acerca de esta escucha

A bargain with the gods throws two men together in a timeless short story of adventure and unrequited love inspired by The Odyssey by Andrew Sean Greer, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Less.

A man in exile, banished to a planet far from home and cursed with immortality, discovers that a ship has crash-landed near his settlement. After two hundred years, his heart’s desire has come true. A visitor has finally arrived on his lonely little speck in the stars. He’ll have companionship again. Someone he could love forever. As the weary traveler heals, the two men form a tender bond. But all they’ve come to share may not be enough to curb the visitor’s irrepressible wanderlust. Now the exile, who thought nothing in his endless life would ever change, must make a decision that will change everything.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“Narrator Robert Petkoff combines a natural ease and a classical timbre to deliver this spare, poetic novella. .. Petkoff is at his best giving voice to the men's growing friendship even as the stranded survivor desperately dreams of returning home. At a compact 53 minutes, this "space fable," which combines science fiction and Homeric traditions, is a refreshing change from the more common thousand-page sci-fi series. We hope to hear many more.”AudioFile Magazine

The story was incredible. In just an hour the author took us on a journey through a dark world to the past, the future, and deep into the soul. Bravo. 👏👏👏

A triumph!

I thought this was a great variation on the myth of Calypso and Odysseus, and the narration was excellent.

Wonderful retelling

Pathos, humanity, poetry, and the backdrop of another story. Well done! And the nature of the relationship was beautifully discreet. Petkoff is superb.

Loved this

As an audiobook, it was a little harder to follow. The story has a jumpy structure that is hard to follow with out the written cues in the text. In the written form there are dividing lines/breaks signifying the passage of time. Still a good listen for a commute or road trip.

Had it been just a little longer.
