Resumen del Editor

Listen, learn, and love Paris more on the go!

Paris comes alive in a single afternoon as you walk the eight significant landmarks of the Historical Axis with the Caché Paris Self-Guided Walking Tour. No need to try and remember the history, facts, or interesting stories described in Caché Paris! Now you can listen on your own time as you stroll along this fascinating path that takes you through select highlights of Parisian history, culture, and development.

What does the bee insignia mean on certain buildings? Why does the Louvre have different architectural styles and designs that perhaps only a keen eye would notice? Can you imagine the Tuileries Garden being 30 feet higher? What do the eight statues in the Place de la Concorde signify? Which giant monument is intentionally shifted to the left as a political statement? And who is the mastermind credited with designing the city of Paris as we know and see it today?

And in the third audio, you'll even discover the secret (and fast) entrance to the Louvre.

Bonus! You'll also receive strategic advice for beating the crowds at Chateau de Versailles (including what days not to visit!); forgotten Versailles sanctuaries; and 10 tips advising you on how to spend a full day enjoying the vast property.

  • Arrive in Paris with an audio guide tour ready to go on your phone, mp3 player, or mobile device
  • Customize your walking tour based on the sights you want to visit
  • Listen to as much - or as little - as you want at each destination
  • Convenient, portable, informative
  • Fully immerse yourself into the history, stories, and interesting facts about the Historical Axis

Please note: This audiobook is only for Chapter 3 from the book Caché Paris: A Guidebook to Discover New Places, Hidden Spaces, and a Favorite Oasis. It is not an audiobook for the full guidebook.

In-depth Paris history & trivia is enriching

If you could sum up Caché Paris in three words, what would they be?

In-depth, history buffs, useful (4 words- Sorry!)

Who was your favorite character and why?

n/a this is a travel guidebook

Which scene was your favorite?

n/a this is a travel guidebook

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

definitely not. again, this is a travel book and a guided walking tour book. the sheer amount of information and history should be swallowed in manageable bites. I recommend reading some chapters the night before certain sights are toured to get an overall perspective and hear the broad history pieces, then taking the audio book along on the guided walks to hear specifics by attraction. There's just a lot of overall background material that is fascinating but seems hard to time manage fitting in to one's walk from one attraction to another. I would recommend listening to it first and maybe taking a few notes, then choosing the specific attractions information as you walk. If you are solo, this is a perfect companion. If you have time to sit in a park or a cafe now and then, and listen to the setup for the next upcoming attraction, that's great too.

Any additional comments?

First, let me get this out of the way... "This audiobook was given by the author at no cost in exchange for an Unbiased review via Audio Boom". That being said, what I was given was not the whole book but a part of it, which was just fine for reviewing purposes.

Overall, if you love history and really enjoy soaking up knowledge for yourself -or to share with companions- I would definitely get this book in a second if I was heading off to Paris.

This guidebook is definitely deep and rich in historical fact and trivia and expert help/shortcuts for any tourist going to Paris. As a travel lover, I found the information useful and interesting, though at times even a bit overwhelming in its depth- and I love facts and trivia! But I would always prefer more than less in this area and you certainly can skip around.

For me, I think it would be better if I read ahead in the book the day before I visited the sights, then listened again to key sections as I went the next day to near certain sights. In other words, some is overall historical background information that is lengthy and possibly better to read ahead and not get bogged down on the walking tour. Other facts/trivia are specific and immediately helpful or interesting for the guided touring/walk. The sheer wealth of information by this author is amazing and there are nice or lesser known tips on getting through lines or saving money, etc., too.

I would also comment that when I first started listening to this book, I noticed the narrator seemed to have a very slight lisp (S's). It bothered me at first, but after 5-10 minutes, it became barely noticeable or non-existent. Her tone is very friendly and her French accent seemed very accurate sounding when naming sights. I would not hesitate to hear the full book's narration.

I enjoyed the casual tone of the author and the side comments or humorous quips that were added here and there. It made the book more enjoyable.
