It was a half block from The Alaska Corral Topless Bar, the second most visited place for thugs and murderers. The wild street action, combined with a labyrinth of old Chinese tunnels under the city, put the young officer on a steep learning curve, and made the downtown foot beat a challenging place.
In a shocking development, the county prosecutor bought and moved his family into a killer’s home, in an attempt to buy the killer’s silence.

Small Town, Big Problems, and Brave Men

While most Americans are quite familiar with big-city crime, they are largely unaware of the problems that small towns can face. Problems that are sometimes even worse due to a combination of corruption, mismanagement, and the unfounded belief that ‘it can’t happen here in Mayberry’. But it does, and Vik Kusske has done an excellent job of chronicling his adventures as cop in Yakima, Washington, where he dealt with drugs, prostitution, murder, and yes, even the Mafia. An educational read presented in an easy-going style that will make you sympathize with his main character and open your eyes to a whole new world that exists just beneath the surface of respectability.

Don’t bother

Interesting plot that had potential, but was crippled by poor writing. The killing blow was administered by awful narration.
