Armed with only her wits and the resilience honed by years of playing college soccer, Jenny goes on the run, pursued by two powerful forces with everything to lose.

As she evades capture, Jenny begins reading her mother’s diaries, uncovering the truth about her mother's past, her first law job, and a passionate affair with the attorney general—her real father. But as she forms a deep connection with the mother who may never wake up, Jenny realizes that to survive, she must destroy the diaries before they fall into the wrong hands.

In a final desperate move, Jenny escapes back to Maine to confront the man who fathered her, expose the truth, and unravel the campaigns of two ruthless men.
