Resumen del Editor

A buggy-racing champion, a hardworking field-hand, and a terrible cook, Rachel Hartzler does not fit her Amish community's standards for an eligible bride. Hurt by their rejection and still grieving the loss of her brother, Rachel is ready for change.

She's not, however, ready for Jordan Engles. Rachel's father hired him to help tend the fields so Rachel can learn to cook and sew, thus increasing her chances of finding a husband. She can't understand why her father doesn't want her help and blames Jordan for trying to replace her beloved brother.

Jordan plans for his time on the Michigan farm to be short. Before his mother passed away, he promised her he'd give her Amish roots a chance. Upon her death, uncertain about what else to do, he came to stay with his Uncle Isaac in Hope Falls. He's curious why his mother left the community she obviously loved. But it doesn't take Jordan long to conclude that the strict lifestyle and the three hour church services are not for him.

But there isn't just human interaction at play. Nathaniel, an angel of God, sees the potential in Jordan and Rachel's hearts from heaven's perspective. His goal is to shepherd them toward the path of healing and love.

Still entertaining but not my fave Ruth Reid book

Wasn"t a fan of the "demon" or "fallen angel's' role in this story. Could've done w/out & story, in general, coukd have been better. It seems like when the author hits on a profound idea or statement, she uses that as the end to a chapter instead of developing the concept further. It seems like a cop out to me.

A wonderful story - stick with it!

I really enjoyed witnessing the transformations of Jordan and Rachel. This author has a great way of letting us in to the thoughts and hearts of her characters so that we feel we know them. They change slowly as the story evolves, so their actions don't seem sudden or unnatural. At first, I wasn't sure about the conversations between the angel and demon, but it really got me thinking about how close God really is to us and how He takes care of us. It became a natural part of the story and not intrusive. This story helped me feel God's comfort and presence in my own life. Can't wait to read the next one!

Unscriptural and boring

This story has people unknowingly talking to a demon and an angel, and them talking to the characters rather than the Holy Spirit speaking to them. It makes it seem like every thought is from an angel or a demon. It also tries to make the case that emotions shouldn't be talked about, because then the demons will know how to use them against us. Even Jesus talked about his emotions when he was hurting. There are too many mundane details making the story boring. The story is not rich and deep. Disappointing.

Narrator is okay, but needs to work on acting skills.
