Brothers, rebels, outcasts since the day they were born. Growing up poor in Northern New Mexico, half Irish, half Mexican, Jude and Billy only had each other to rely on. Both brothers eventually choose different paths to carve out their stake and flee their past.
Billy returns home a reluctant WWII hero. Jude, once a feared marshal and gunfighter, has now settled down as a family man and lawyer. Neither quite recognize the other until a kindle from Billy’s past sets their present life aflame sending the brothers on a cross country journey dodging the law, the Ku Ku Klan and taking dead aim at the ruthless Pinkerton Agency who turned their lives upside down.
Along the way, their rugged bond will be tested. Jude’s obligation to save his brother while jeopardizing his own wife and children. Billy’s guilt-ridden fear that he is inherently broken and not worth saving. This creates a sharp tension between the two brothers when they need each other most...
©2024 Michael Mulcahy (P)2025 Michael MulcahyThe characters and story really come to life through his performance. There's intricate layers of relationships strained by time and war, love and loss. The world Mulcahy creates is so entertaining in the moment but it always leads to deeper reflections on the events or reasons behind how humans act in the grit and strife of life altering turning point choices. Mulcahy takes us on the rugged journey, I personally delight in his craft of the day to day characters and situations that surround the brothers. The story unfolds at a familiar and comforting clip, giving us proper time to contemplate and enjoy all the characters complex motives and how they find themselves intertwined in their own histories.
Highly recommend!
