Acerca de esta escucha
I am Rick Levesque. This is my first book; it is about faith, my recovery from my alcoholism and pornography, and my experiences with the church after the revelation of my affair. I am not alone in my struggle and hope this will reach just one man to help him get honest about his sin and encourage the church to be more open to sinners.
In many ways, the church is broken; years of pleasantries and hollow worship, dependent on tradition while keeping appearances up, have almost proven to be ineffective for those who struggle with sin. The struggles of the world are the same struggles of the church. Sin is nothing new. I fought for years trying to live up to the image that I had created. Once brought to my knees by my alcoholism, I found a relationship with God in the rooms of recovery and began attending church with the burden of pornography addiction on my back.
The physical affair that followed, and its revelation in the cruelest of manners, would test my faith and my view of the church and force me to my knees again. I became desperate for the love of Christ and transparency. I am not alone in my struggle; I have found that others became more open in my openness. There is power in all of our testimonies. I know Jesus loves me, but maybe I can love others by sharing my story.

Infidelity, deceit, distrust, and shame. Unfortunately, these are recurring themes in many of today's marriages in America - even in the family-values-promoting, Christian-based Robertson family. With a romance that began in junior high, the couple got off to a rocky start but soon settled into married life and had two baby girls. Alan became a pastor in the church where his family had been members for years. Then, when Lisa had an affair, the heartache and the tension was very public.

Historia
When the carnage of war broke out on D-Day, the wounded were brought to an empty nearby church and laid on the pews so medics could treat them. When the war was over, and the blood-stained pews discovered, the townspeople decided to preserve the stains to remind all who would come afterward: This is the place where the wounded are welcome. Blood Stained Pews is a chance to examine Jesus’ original intent for the church, a hospital for the broken. Pastor and author Carl Kuhl is clear: Christians have been getting this wrong.

The writer of the letter to the Hebrews said, "See to it that no one misses the grace of God." Over the centuries much ink has been spilled on the subject of grace. Yet perhaps nothing is as hard to explain as God's grace. It doesn't make sense. It's not fair. It can't possibly cover over what I've done. The best way - perhaps the only real way - to understand it is to experience it. But too often in our churches we're not getting grace across and grace is not experienced.

At the base of every broken life, every dysfunctional relationship, every bad choice is a lie we believe. And at the root of every lie is fear. Fear of not having enough, fear of missing out, fear of being alone. The good news is, once we can identify and name our fears, we can defeat the lies that control us and live out the more abundant life that Christ promises us.

The human heart was created with a great capacity to love. But along with that comes a great capacity to feel pain. There is no denying that those who love us, who are closest to us, can wound us the most profoundly. That kind of pain can be difficult, if not impossible, to overcome. And it can feel even more impossible to continue loving in the face of it. Yet that is exactly what we are called to do. Sharing his own story of pain, pastor and best-selling author Jentezen Franklin shows us how to find the strength, courage, and motivation to set aside the hurt, see others as God sees them, and reach out in love.

We know our lives should reflect Jesus. But if we’re being honest, there are days when we face tough, confusing things that can make us feel, well, not like Jesus. As our culture moves further from truth and grace, Christians are unsure of where to turn for sound biblical advice that applies to their everyday struggles. If you’ve ever felt this way or wished someone would talk about things like forgiveness, mental health, broken friendships, church hurt, and more in honest, down-to-earth terms while sticking to what Scripture has to say about them, you’ve come to the right place.
