Randa takes her family and leaves her home in the foothills of the mountains, fleeing marauders who would kill her children for being different. They are rescued by the Elwists and taken to a village set up for the safety of the new Humans. Born too early to be one of the changed people, will Randa be able to bridge the gap between the old ways and the new? Will her new friends, the Elwists, be able to help?
