The bloodiest conflict, the first of the global wars, was anticipated by nodal events in the history of Europe and the rest of the world. The first volume of the History of the First World War retraces the alliance system that had been established in the European community, the events and triggers of the Balkan wars, and the crisis in Morocco that led to the fateful attack in Sarajevo. The final part of the book contains the appendices to the history of the First World War: official documents of the time, such as the Treaty of the Triple Alliance, with the direct voice of history and stories that offer testimony of an epochal event that - even after a century - is striking for its drama and ferocity. There is also a detailed chronology of events.
