I soldati, consapevoli di "andare al macello", non potevano che obbedire a folli ordini di comandanti che si mostravano del tutto indifferenti a quelle continue carnefici-ne.In questo quinto volume de La Breve storia della Prima Guerra Mondiale, en-triamo nel pieno del conflitto, concentrando l’attenzione specialmente sui fronti orientali: la sconfitta della Serbia e la Campagna di Mesopotamia, la creazione del mito di Lawrence d’Arabia e la questione palestinese, che prende origine proprio in questi anni e ancora oggi non è risolta.
