Reseñas editoriales

Few hockey franchises are as storied and decorated as the Boston Bruins, with their six Stanley Cup Titles, a whopping 54 Hall of Fame inductees, and the second-highest all-time winning percentage among the NHL's six original teams. Bruins fans can delight in their team's triumphs - from the inaugural 1924 campaign through the 2011 championship - through the eyes of players and those close to the team, retold here in the classy, affective baritone of Ray Childs - the self-described "writer's voice". Among hockey's most distinguished authors, Stan Fischler serves up hours' worth of big plays, insider anecdotes, and Boston hockey's biggest names, from Bobby Orr to Raymond Bourque.

Good Historical Information on The Bruins

A good listen for Boston Bruins fans. The first half of the book reads like a high school yearbook. Historical Bruins players have individual bios as chapters that include stories from their playing days. I would have liked to have seen more players there that made the list. However; most of the popular and star players have made the list. After the bios there are various awards like worst suspension, longest feud, and fastest shot, Etc.

The second half of the book is a collection of stories from some of the players and coaches. Some from previous interviews or stories from one player to another. There's also short chapters like "A day in the life of Ray Bourque".

Good listen if you are looking for historical context of the Boston Bruins. Written by Stan Fischler and narrated by Ray Childs only adds to that Bruins feel. #bostonbruins #hockey #sports

Like hearing an encyclopedia but in a good way

This was a collection of notable players, events, games, etc. Each chapter was a specific person/topic. If you're unfamiliar with the Bruins'history, this will be a good overview--though not horribly well organized.

Since the entries were not chronological, the author often repeats himself (e.g. there was a town in Canada called Berlin prior to the WW). And since it wasn't chronological, you often hear stories repeated with only minor differences based on the players being discussed.

And the lack of chronological order makes it hard to appreciate the full journey of the Bruins. Instead, you come away feeling like you've just heard a number of factoids and memories. That's not a bad thing, but you don't come away feeling like "ah...now I know their history."

Also, not sure if this was an Audible glitch or an editing error, but there were a number of spots where I'm positive a page or two was re-read before completing the chapter. (driving, so I couldn't rewind to verify.)

last drawback, I had to play at 1.25 speed to enjoy it.

but despite these drawbacks, it was a fun book if you're a hockey fan. if you just love hockey, you will be entertained by the stories.

My Franchise

It’s hard for it not to be repeating stories time and time again, because of the layout. I enjoyed listening about my team just wish it was arraigned differently.
