The term "blowback", invented by the CIA, refers to the unintended consequences of American actions abroad. In this incisive and controversial book, Chalmers Johnson lays out in vivid detail the dangers faced by our overextended empire and reveals the ways in which our misguided policies are planting the seeds of future disaster.©2000 Chalmers Johnson (P)2007 Blackstone Audio, Inc. Reseñas de la Crítica

"Boldly provocative....A useful and timely alert." ( The New York Times)
"A straight-talking analysis of America's global conduct during the Cold War and since, and what we're going to pay for it." ( The Nation)
"It is indeed a new post-Cold War ballgame, and Johnson's warning, if it were heeded in Washington, would help keep America safe from the temptation of untrammeled power." ( Newsday)

the narration is hard for me to get past. there's a lot of dry mouth sounds that are very off putting other than that it was very informative and highly recommended

sticky spit

If you ever thought that "they hate us for our freedom" you really should listen to what's in Blowback. From the CIA overthrow of the popularly elected Iranian president in 1953 until now, the government's policies and agencies purposefully interfere in the affairs of other countries, causing the loss of everything we supposedly hold so dear in our country, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We are just like every other empire that existed that will eventually fall due to corruption and the treatment of the people it subjugates unless "we the people" understand what our government is doing and put a stop to it. Terrorism is a symptom of foreign policy

If Dr. Johnson is correct about what's going on behind the scenes of the body politic, we are all pawns and puppets (and stooges?) in a feeding frenzy of money and power by the rich and powerful.

It is at least unsettling. For me, being a cynic by nature, it's frightening.

IF HE IS RIGHT...

Very educational and a must read for American citizens, especially actual patriots. I think the time has finally come for Americans to start critically examining this country's role in world (as well as domestic) politics and social policies and holding our "leaders" and press accountable.
We are not and have never been as all knowing or altruistic as we have been taught. Learning the truths about who and what this country is and has been is the only way in which we can make it better.

We have the wonderful but daunting ability to truly become the nation and people that we've perpetually been told we have been and already are but certainly are not.
It is undoubtedly easy (and desirable) to believe that we are a fantastic nation, free and equal but the facts of our founding and history paint a very different picture.
However, we stand at a place in time which we can learn about our massive personal, social, and leadership shortcomings to paint a new picture. It is not an easy task but I think it's one that gives us a very real chance to (even if only in some small ways) to live up to the image of the people and nation we have already been told we embody.

Not as cutting as Chomsky but very good stuff

Eye opening narration but seem like authors almost anti American otherwise enjoyable for some after a strok that listens to books to get rid of constant sound of birds chirping
