"Black and White in the Morning" follows the fiery relationship between Tom Black, a charismatic yet somewhat arrogant morning show host, and Daiyu White, a determined journalist with something to prove. When Daiyu joins Tom’s show as his co-host, tensions flare immediately. She initially arrives with a secret agenda—to outshine Tom and take over his position. However, their professional rivalry soon gives way to undeniable chemistry, leading to a battle of wits, emotions, and unexpected romance.

The story unfolds in the high-stakes world of morning television, where ratings are king and personal lives often become public spectacle. Daiyu refuses to let Tom push her out, turning his on-air attempts to undermine her into moments that endear her to the audience. Their love-hate dynamic captivates viewers, both in the story and in their fictional TV world, culminating in an emotional climax when Daiyu takes to social media in a desperate attempt to prove her love for Tom after a heated fallout.
This is a tale of ambition, redemption, and romance set against the backdrop of a cutthroat media industry. Expect drama, heartfelt confessions, and a slow-burning love story that will keep audiences engaged until the very last scene.

Review of Black and White in the Morning by Kimberly Smith (Audiobook Edition)

I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience with this audiobook. Black and White in the Morning promised a fiery romance set in the competitive world of morning television, but unfortunately, it fell short in nearly every regard.

The storyline lacked cohesion. Transitions between scenes felt abrupt, and character motivations were often unclear, making it difficult to stay engaged or emotionally invested. Daiyu and Tom’s dynamic, which should have been the heart of the story, felt forced and underdeveloped.

What made matters worse was the narration. The audiobook uses “virtual voice” technology—a computer-generated performance—and it was painfully distracting. The delivery lacked emotion, nuance, and timing, which made it nearly impossible to follow the plot or connect with the characters. Listening felt more like parsing a robotic transcript than experiencing a story.

I truly wanted to enjoy this, but the combination of a disjointed narrative and lifeless performance left me disappointed. I hope future editions consider a human narrator and tighter editing to give the story a chance to shine.
