A Story of Josephine Baker

Born fatherless and into poverty, Josephine Baker rises to international stardom and risks her life as an Allied spy during World War II. She fights for equality, insisting that her concerts be integrated, during a time when integration often means violence. And yet, she refuses to give in. She yearns to be a mother, but can’t, so she adopts a dozen children from around the world to form her Rainbow Tribe. Those children are a source of great pleasure and great pain. And beyond the fame and riches, the thing she wants most is to love and be loved. Four husbands and numerous affairs can’t bring her that love. Even the roar of the audience after her Danse Sauvage leaves her empty. In the end, she has “Deux Amours”, but neither can bring her the peace she so desperately needs. Then comes that suave Frenchmen, Jo Bouillon. Is he the answer?
