Resumen del Editor

The year is 1932. The place is Zenith, home of the mysterious Black Centipede. The sinister Professor James Moriarty comes calling, and he's brought a few friends with him: John Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd, Ma Barker, Bonnie and Clyde, the Bell Witch, the Loch Ness Monster, and the rest of the deadly Order of the Sunless Circle. Moriarty is looking for Jack the Ripper's Analytical Engine, and is prepared to destroy Zenith to find it.

But the Lord of the Vampires has reckoned without the Black Centipede, who rises to the challenge with a few friends of his own: F. Scott Fitzgerald, Amelia Earhart, J. Alfred Prufrock, Resurrection Mary, Doctor Unknown, Gregor Samsa, and the other stalwart members of the Invisible Round Table.

Where is the Analytical Engine? Who is the faceless assassin called Anonymoushka? Why does William Randolph Hearst want to fire Percival Doiley? What the heck is going on with Bloody Mary Jane Gallows? How can the Black Centipede possibly save the day?

The answers to these and many other questions can be found in Black Centipede Confidential, the second volume in Chuck Miller's Moriarty, Lord of the Vampires trilogy and the wildest ride yet through the streets of Zenith and beyond.

The Centipede Strikes again

All I can say is that Chuck Miller knows how to write pulp. He has created, perhaps, one of the best pulpverses in literature. It is populated with tons of real and fictional people that interact with the Centipede. So, don't be surprised to see Capone and Dillinger, as well as Proff. Moriarity, Bela Lugosi, and Amelia Earhart to name but a handful.

The action is fast, frantic, and cranked up at a breakneck speed. Can the Centipede handle all the danger that seems to be growing in his town like a festering boil? Do the dead walk? Zenith City proves to be the place that the search for the analytical engine begins. Can the Black Centipede stop Moriarity before he finds it, or will the Centipede finally fail? This is an amazingly written novel with characters that literally fly off the pages because they are so vibrant.

Grall nails the narration. I love listening to him do the Centipede, and I always think I wish he had taught Christian Bale how to say, "I'm Batman." He completely knocks this out of the park. He really has a sense for how to pace the story and add emotion as needed. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.
