Good Space Adventure for Teen & YA Audience

I debated a while before reviewing, as I was suggested this book as a sci-fi space opera. And while it is, it's also has a very simple plot, immature characters, and accessible writing. Then I figured out it's a YA and teen book and felt pretty bad for almost bashing it. I could see a teen enjoying this, so even though it's not my thing, I'm going to rate it on those merits. Adults, look elsewhere for your serious sci-fi -- but your kids might enjoy this one.

Awesome book!

Loved the book and narration! Was awesome to read about Bishop and how he realizes the world is much bigger than what he can see. Awesome book for anyone to read or listen to and relate to.

Great Science Fiction Adventure

Quick opening with well-laid groundwork. No quantum leaps in storyline, with all situational changes smoothly written. Narration is well done capturing the attitude of the main character clearly in vocal pressure.
I would recommend this audiobook for ages 14 and older due to language and some sexual situations that were communicated in a way which is acceptable for that age group.

A Little Guy vs Corrupt Government Space Opera

When their colony ship died, Bishop's family were forced to take up a life of scrounging and trading. They were getting by and he wasn't unhappy, but when he stumbled on some unusual tech, everything changed.
Bishop's Gambit is the kind of feel good space opera fans who grew up on Star Wars will love. It's got space pirates, a ruthless and corrupt local government, great space battles, a smart, cocky teenage hero with a knack or tech, souped up derelict space ships and even a wise cracking AI.
I loved the story, and Mike Thomas's narration made it a pleasure to listen to.
Highly recommended for space SF fans.

First Audio Book and it was Great!

I had never enjoyed an audio book before, but the mixture of enjoyable narration (complete with a soothing cadence that didn’t require speeding up) and a fun sci-fi adventure, made for a fantastic first listen. I’ll be looking for more audiobooks now!

Young adult sci-fi

Some of the ideas are intriguing, but the novel is written at a middle school level.
