Before the dawn of this world, Almira and her adopted siblings agree to take a “mortality test”—a rite of passage meant to shape them into worthy heirs of their parents’ kingdom.

But there’s a catch: once the test begins, they’ll remember nothing—not who they are, nor why they came.

When Emily Starp awakens in a bustling city with no memory, she’s told her life has just begun and there’s nothing to remember. But as she stumbles through the etiquette and culture of this new world, she discovers The Book of Panosyn—the writings of an ancient philosopher who speaks of other worlds and forgotten gods.

Each evening, mysterious boats depart for the east, said to follow Panosyn’s path. No voyager has ever returned.

Upon receiving an enigmatic invitation, Emily decides to set sail on an adventure that will test her heart, her courage, and the limits of her soul. Across the waters, she finds laughter and loss, kind strangers and dangerous allies, and echoes of a life she can’t quite remember.

Forgotten siblings arrive with unknown motivations. Are they here to help or hinder Emily's journey in unraveling the mystery of Panosyn’s gate?

Often, when I read books, the premise is very interesting, but after three or four chapters, I find myself skimming the book. This was not the case here. The story kept getting more and more interesting as it went along. I love the premise of having a memory block, where the main characters cannot remember who they previously were. Weaving between “Act 1” and “Act 2” made me eager to find out what happened next, but at the same time slowly revealing what occurred the past. The book lightly touches on themes of faith and purpose without being preachy. Very cleverly written.
This was an excellent read, and I look forward to starting up Book 2 this week.

This book kept getting better and better!
