Beyond Woke: The Diversity of U.S. Military Heroes is a book for our time. It details the inspiring and often emotional stories of some of our nation’s most overlooked heroes: women, ethnic minorities, and immigrants. These are stories unknown to many, forgotten by some, and biographies some want to dismiss from our history.
Compiled by a team of historian/authors, these inspiring, true, and often emotionally-charged stories detail the lives, military service, and heroic actions of more than 100 heroes who rose to the defense of their native nation, or in many cases, their adopted homeland.
From civilian women who served as men in the American Revolution and Civil War, to women serving in uniform with men in our most recent wars, theirs is a legacy of service to be honored and emulated. The role of Black, Yellow, Red, and Brown heroes, some of whom were citizens of other nations who made their homes here, is nothing short of admirable; their contribution is unmatched in this country, the “Melting Pot” of the world.
