Historia
Women have been told that being pretty comes at the expense of being taken seriously. If a woman is physically attractive, there is often a presumption that she lacks the substance and smarts necessary to provide leadership. This narrative implies that being pretty and being capable are mutually exclusive. But in Pretty Powerful, Fox News political commentator and legal analyst Eboni Williams rejects that narrative. She says that to accept the false notion that beauty and power are mutually exclusive is to leave an incredibly powerful tool on the table.

America’s backstory is a whitewashed mythology implanted in our collective memory. It should come as no surprise that the dominant narrative of American history is blighted with errors and oversights—after all, history books were written by white men with their perspectives at the forefront. It could even be said that the devaluation and erasure of the Black experience is as American as apple pie. In Black AF History, Michael Harriot presents a more accurate version of American history.

There may be no tidy solutions or pithy answers to life’s big challenges, but Michelle Obama believes that we can all locate and lean on a set of tools to help us better navigate change and remain steady within flux. In The Light We Carry, she opens a frank and honest dialogue with readers, considering the questions many of us wrestle with: How do we build enduring and honest relationships? How can we discover strength and community inside our differences? What tools do we use to address feelings of self-doubt or helplessness? What do we do when it all starts to feel like too much?

Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

In his early 20s, Curtis Jackson, known as 50 Cent, rose to the heights of fame and power in the cutthroat music business. A decade ago, the multi-platinum selling rap artist decided to pivot. His ability to adapt to change was demonstrated when he became the executive producer and star of Power, a high-octane, gripping crime drama centered around a drug kingpin's family. The series quickly became "appointment" television, leading to Jackson inking a four-year, $150 million contract with the Starz network - the most lucrative deal in premium cable history.

Stephen A. Smith has never been handed anything, nor was he an overnight success. Growing up poor in Queens, the son of Caribbean immigrants and the youngest of six children, he was a sports-obsessed kid who faced struggles, from undiagnosed dyslexia to getting enough cereal to fill his bowl. As a basketball player at Winston-Salem State University, he got a glimmer of his true calling when he wrote a newspaper column arguing for the retirement of his own Hall of Fame coach, Clarence Gaines.

Historia
For two centuries, the deep-seated fear that many White people feel—of losing power, of losing economic standing, of losing a particular “way of life”—has been the driving force behind American politics and culture. And as we approach a future where White people will become a racial minority in the US, something estimated to occur as early as 2043, that fear is only intensifying, festering, and becoming more visible. Are we destined for a violent clash? What can we do to step into our country’s inevitable future, without tearing ourselves apart in the process?

Resumen del Editor
Journalist, attorney, and star of Bravo's The Real Housewives of New York reshapes the cultural landscape of achievement by showing why Black unity is crucial to individual and collective success.
When The Real Housewives of New York City hired its first black cast member after more than 13 years on the air, attorney, speaker, and journalist Eboni K. Williams knew that the public would consider her a diversity hire. But instead of accepting the label, Williams re-envisioned her role as a “Diversity Higher,” an opportunity to prove the significance of Black excellence in the workspace and in society at-large. In Bet on Black, she shares all the benefits and advantages that have helped her and many others historically reach great heights in their careers and beyond.
Williams declares that Blackness is her superpower toward success, and shows how it’s been instrumental for achieving her dreams. She takes us on a journey through an extraordinary life growing up in the South with a single mother, being a pageant girl, attending law school in Louisiana, working as a litigator, reporting for Fox News, and becoming an influential voice in today’s media landscape. Her writing is at turns entertaining, relatable, and incredibly inspiring; after finishing this book, listeners will be reawakened to own their worth and understand the value of celebrating Blackness (whether theirs or others). Empowering others to maximize their potential with zero apologies is her life’s work as well as her lifestyle, she says, “No longer can we settle on just asking that Black people be comfortable. We can do better than settle for surviving, we can achieve never-ending thriving!”
As Williams says in her RHONY tagline, “I’ve had to work twice as hard for half as much, but now I’m coming for everything.” And in Bet on Black, Williams invites her listeners to join her on the quest to show the world what Black excellence really means.

Black women have never been more visible or more publicly celebrated. But for every milestone, every magazine cover, every new face elected to public office, the reality of everyday life for black women remains a complex, conflicted, contradiction-laden experience. An American journalist who has been living in London for a decade, Kenya Hunt has made a career of distilling moments, movements, and cultural moods into words. Her work takes the difficult and the indefinable and makes it accessible; it is razor sharp cultural observation threaded through evocative and relatable stories.

"Black people are not dark-skinned white people", says advertising visionary Tom Burrell. In fact, they are much more. They are survivors of the Middle Passage and centuries of humiliation and deprivation, who have excelled against the odds, constantly making a way out of "No way!" At this pivotal point in history, the idea of Black inferiority should have had a "Going-Out-of-Business Sale." After all, Barack Obama reached America's Promised Land. Yet, as Brainwashed testifies, too many in Black America are still wandering in the wilderness.

Black Americans have long been shackled to the Democrats. Seeing no viable alternative, they have watched liberal politicians take the Black vote for granted without pledging anything in return. In Blackout, Owens argues that this automatic allegiance is both illogical and unearned. She contends that the Democrat Party has a long history of racism and exposes the ideals that hinder the Black community’s ability to rise above poverty, live independent and successful lives, and be an active part of the American dream.

Growing up on the south side of Chicago, Sesali Bowen learned early on how to hustle, stay on her toes, and champion other Black women and femmes as she navigated Blackness, queerness, fatness, friendship, poverty, sex work, and self-love. Her love of trap music led her to the top of hip-hop journalism. But despite all the beauty, complexity, and general badassery she saw, Bowen found none of that nuance represented in mainstream feminism. Thus, she coined Trap Feminism, a contemporary framework that interrogates where feminism meets today's hip-hop.

Today's feminist movement has a glaring blind spot, and paradoxically, it is women. Mainstream feminists rarely talk about meeting basic needs as a feminist issue, argues Mikki Kendall, but food insecurity, access to quality education, safe neighborhoods, a living wage, and medical care are all feminist issues. All too often, however, the focus is not on basic survival for the many, but on increasing privilege for the few. Author Mikki Kendall takes aim at the legitimacy of the modern feminist movement arguing that it has chronically failed to address the needs of all but a few women.

Such a great read/listen
Eboni does an incredible job or narrating this book and giving us all insight on the beauty of betting on Black and being Black in today’s society. She gives me a lot of hope for my future and I’m not thinking more about how to build wealth for myself and my future children/family. She’s so funny and perfectly blunt about her experiences. Thank you, Eboni!

Best articulation of Black America and it's plight past & present I've heard in decades!
This is the best articulation of Black America and it's plight (past & present) I've read in decades!
Eboni has managed to show us how black pride was instilled within her from a very young age by black women that had navigated *the system* of White Supremacy. In that upbringing she was blessed with a wonderful perspective that comes together brilliantly in this book. In a sense this has given me a blueprint vibe on how to stand up unabashedly in my blackness. I'm not better than but very proud of who I am as a Black American!
Great read with lots of references to learn more.
Inspired, ready, empowered and on board is how I feel after reading this book.
I would recommend this book to anybody interested in how to stand up with pride of their Black American heritage. Lord knows I've learned to stand up a little taller because of it. Great job Eboni!

Thought provoking!
Enjoyed the author insight, knowledge and over motivation. You never hear to much from a public figure, being this candid about their feelings on race, however I found it refreshing and powerful. Loved it!

This was a winning bet!
Usually when I write reviews, I make suggestions to future consumers for best practices on when and how to consume a product or service, provide takeaways, and so on. Instead, I will simply tell you to consume this work. It’s like familial love which has no “when” nor “how” for consumption aside from anytime and healthily, respectively. Just be present and receive its goodness. To the author, Ms. Eboni K. Williams aka “Auntie E”, thank you. I receive this as I would a word from a trusted family member. To ColorComm, thank you for the conversation with Ms. Williams that led me to buying this book. I now have the hard copy AND the audiobook, increasing my ‘round the clock accessibility to this gem. Thank you.

Compelling, Articulate, Beautfiul.
Bet on Black is the Anthem for Black America. Its reader will find the inner voice of Black Americans and a clear call for advancement in this world.
Eboni K. Williams acknowledges the plight of Black America but encourages Black Americans to choose solutions over victimhood. Let's be clear. Black Americans did not choose to be victims. Eboni K. Williams has agreed on this several times in 'Bet on Black'. However, Black Americans do not have to choose to adopt a victimhood mindset.
