Stunning!

I throughly enjoyed my time listening to this book. The content of the story line and the reader are both terrific.

It is simply a marvelous work of art.

I really loved hearing it. I was not at all difficult to go through the chapters. I was eager to finish it. The most memorable scene is the recount of Juda's heritage that was kept and multiplied by the stewardship of Simonedes...

A MASTERFUL UNDERSTANDING OF A SIMPLER TIME IN AMERICAN HISTORY

WOULD HAVE BENEFITTED BY A FEMALE READER NARRATING THE PASSAGES WHICH FEATURED FEMININE CHARACTERS. I READ THIS BOOK IN ITS ENTIRETY WHEN I WAS A TEEN AND REMAIN INSPIRED BY THE DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS, INCLUDING DESCRIPTIONS OF THE HOLY LAND. THE DESCRIPTIONS OF ROMAN EXOTIC ART MIGHT HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED DARING IN THE TIME PERIOD OF THE ORIGINAL WRITING. I WAS DISAPPOINTED, THOUGH, THAT THE CHARACTER OF BEN HUR DID NOT SEEM TO LEARN THE LESSON WHICH PAUL TAUGHT—THAT SALVATION IS BY GRACE ALONE, THROUGH FAITH ALONE, IN JESUS CHRIST ALONE, ESPECIALLY SINCE SUCH PIVOTAL ACTION TAKES PLACE IN ANTIOCH, WHERE THE FOLLOWERS OF JESUS WERE FIRST CALLED CHRISTIANS. Zacchaeus FIRST WELCOMED JESUS INTO HIS HOME, LIFE, AND HEART—THEN JESUS GAVE Zacchaeus THE SPIRITUAL STRENGTH TO ACCOMPLISH RIGHT ACTIONS FOR HIS FAMILY, FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS. BEN HUR WOULD HAVE BENEFITTED FROM THAT REALIZATION.

Maginificient remake

Much more readable and a lot easier to understand and follow than the original version.
It's a must-read classic tale for all ages.

I Absolutely Loved It!

I love how this book has an original story as well as the story of Jesus. There’s the galleys, the chariot race, but also the well-known story of Christ, told from the perspective of someone living in that time. Definitely five stars for every aspect- including performance!

Excellent book, entertaining and inspiring. Particularly around Easter time.

Carol Wallace today excellent job of rewriting her great grandfather‘s novel in a more modern language and style. I found it very easy to follow and was much more enjoyable. I do wish she had spent a little more time detailing the description of the Middle East. Otherwise, a great and entertaining book.

The entire story entertains and, more importantly, uplifts.

Judah's struggle with vengeance accompanied with violence and power vs basic humanity and love of family.

Couldn’t stop listening!

Loved the epilogue! Will have to read his other books. Forgot his connection with Billy the Kid and the Wild West.

Great book for one who's never read it or seen it.

Would you listen to Ben-Hur again? Why?

Yes. For someone who likes a period piece, this book has all the ingredients to a great novel. Interesting characters, great story-line, adventure, a hero and a bit of romance all situated around a story as old as paper itself. Whether you are a devout Christian or an agnostic matters not. This is a great book.

What did you like best about this story?

The fact that this fictional character and story is loosely structured around and involves the adult life of Christ gives it the feel of a non-fictional story. While many of the circumstances affecting the main character seem a bit far-fetched, they also remind you that wonderful things happen to lousy people and vice-versa and while a rags to riches story may invoke an eye-roll in some it also gives hope and reason to endure for others.

Have you listened to any of Firdous Bamji’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Christ's last message in the book to his decipels when asked what were they to do now: "Feed my lambs, tend my sheep, follow me".
I found this profound and kind of a slap to reality as the message was simply telling them to love and take care of one another and avoid doing evil things, which even if Christ was not the son of God, is a message that we should all follow as the act is Godly regardless of what deity you follow.

Any additional comments?

From someone who has done nothing but listen to Stephen King type thrillers this was a welcome break and unexpected enjoyment.I have never read the original book nor have I seen either the old nor the newer version of the movie. I doubt very much any screen adaptation will be able to hold the same significance for me as this audio book did, but I will give them a shot. A very well written book. A wonderful story. I hope all who partake enjoy it as much as I did.

I enjoyed this book. Well done! The storyline is gripping and keeps the reader interested.
