Acerca de esta escucha

From the author of Dear Marcus comes a breathtaking novel about a fated love affair that crosses the divides of race and class.

Rashid is a young Black man from Bed Stuy, Brooklyn, with a complicated life. Looking for an escape from a neighborhood few ever leave, he finds it in Rachel - married, twenty years his senior, and the daughter of a Holocaust survivor. It begins with a flirtation and a tryst. It becomes an intense romance, exhilarating and enriching, that defies the expectations of Rashid’s friends and family. What draws Rachel to Rashid is his curiosity, his need for intimacy, and his adoration - everything lacking in her crumbling marriage. But as the fault lines of their relationship become more prevalent, so do the inevitable choices one makes when falling in love.

Such a memorable story with beautiful wisdoms sprinkled throughout. Narration compliments the text so well. Highly recommend!

it's not very often that I get so wrapped up in a story that I can't stop until it's over but this was so captivating I just had to keep listening... I never heard of the author before and now I want to listen to his biography "Dear Marcus" ... at first I found the performer to have an odd voice or way of speaking but came to think he was perfect for the part... I'm glad I came across this poignant novel...

This book was really slow to get into but I did like the ending. It makes me sad so I don’t recommend it.☹️

Bed Stuy: A Love Story by Jerry McGill is not for me. I didn't care for or like anyone. I found it to be contradicting and underwhelming. I am very happy it is a short book; however, that may be part of the problem as the characters didn't really have time to change or grow.

I like the timber of Preston Butler III's voice. However, there are quite a few mispronounced words, which is a pet peeve of mine, as well as awkward pauses in the middle of sentences and no pause between scene changes, making the book hard to follow.

I rate Bed Stuy 2 stars as I did stay engaged. I don't think I'd give Jerry McGill another chance.
