I love the steam punkish world that exists only in these books. And the narrator is excellent. Having grown up on the original Sherlock Holmes stories, these are a terrific next installment

Fantastic Sherlock Series!

Love this series! As an avid Sherlock fan, I love the play and twist on characters, the unyielding characteristics she keeps in the main characters, and the story is great!

Great addition to new Holmes series

Extremely entertaining. The series has fun action, modern, but still keeping spirit of original characters alive.
Love the narrator. The story moves fast.
I hope this author continues to work and write many more books for the series.

Edge of the seat read

Very intriguing and captivating story. I couldn’t stop listening. If you like Sherlock stories you will love this series.

Cliff hangers

The series has been great. This time there are two or three cliffhangers. Which means I can’t wait for the next one (fingers crossed).

Each of these three stories was top drawer

I was totally engaged in the mystery as well as the characters, despite my misgivings at the beginning. I thought Sherlock Holmes had been done to death, but I was wrong.

Gritty, but finally a bit revealing

This is the third book in this series and the first time some of the background information has appeared. As usual in these books there are several running threads - one is the main mystery of who is killing the London crime Boses, and why, two is Oliver Lestrade's illness and three is the ongoing but complicated business involving John Watson and the women around him. Two of these are resolved and the one cliff-hanger is not really a cliff-hanger at all if you have been reading the books up to this point. And, of course, there is the slow tricking out of information about Sherlock's background, and that becomes a lot clearer in this book.

The London of these books is a dystopian nightmare. Medical care is hard to get, the city is largely unlivable, the air is terribly polluted, crime is rampant and it is a far cry from the London of Sherlock's actual time. The author has done an astonishing job of reimagining the normal characters with most of them being very different from the characters we know in the original stories. In this volume we have Sherlock, Watson, Moriarty, Mycroft, Lestrade, Gregson, Irene Adler, Mary Morstead and Mrs Hudson and very few of them are recognizable to those unfamiliar with this series.

Still, Sherlock is still the amazing deductive detective and John Watson is still his faithful companion, although being a much more complex individual. As a general rule I have not been a fan of the modern Sherlock Holmes stories, preferring the original Doyle short stories and novel, but this series has grown on me. At times it is difficult to listen to because you know what is coming, but still the author has done a good job if you can live with the changed London and the very different characters.

The narration is very good and matches the downbeat and at times depressing character of the book, but these books are, I think, an acquired taste. I recommend this book to those who read the first two in the series and are interested in what happens, but think that new readers to this series should start at the first book or it will not make much sense.

Wonderful series but now I need book 4!

This whole series has been amazing. My fingers are crossed that book 4 will be released soon!
