Ember Amato is the prototypical high school senior, with a busy schedule, great friends, and a caring boyfriend. But her life takes a surprisingly dark turn when her best friend, Janell, falls asleep on the school bus one morning, waking up at a ramshackle house in the woods. Though presumably telling Ember all about the strange conversation she overheard there, Janell's disappearance one night speaks of her having held some information back. In pursuit of her best friend, Ember discovers a brutal murder. Fearing that a police investigation has grown cold, Ember puts it upon herself to look into these horrifying occurrences, However, in so doing, she sets off an unpredictable and dangerous chain of events.
