I love this book. I’ve heard many versions of beauty and the beast with the princes as the beast and this is the first time I’ve heard this story with the princesses as the beast. Isabel gone through something so traumatic that caused her to get revenge which led to a curse being put on not just her but the castle an entire town. Dealing with the curse in silence everyone thought she disappeared until one day she met a skilled archer who eventually helps her break the curse. This was a very dark and twisted retelling of beauty and the beast, and I loved it all

Belle is the Beast

Beauty and the Beast is my favorite fairytale of all time, so when it’s a retelling AND it’s dark and twisted, sign me up. The author spent a good amount of time on the details of this story. Walking us through the entire timeline of events. Isabelle or Belle is the princess of her castle. But when dark and twisted men come and cause her harm, things change. Belle now wants revenge and wants justice for what happened to her. Now she does not expect one of them to be a demon and they cast a curse on her. She is now a beast. I loved the twist on this retelling. Beauty is also the beast! The twists and the spice added to the story was so good. Belle is such a strong FMC and I loved her. The archer, Thorne, was soooo good! I fell in love with him. He sees Belle past her hideous monster curse, he sees her. Their love story isn’t easy, it’s hard for Belle to trust, but the connection is so strong. There is a pull between them. They both fight for one another so fiercely. Time is running out. Can Belle break the curse or will she always be a monster? Marie Walker did an AMAZING job narrating this book! She brought this book to life and had me entranced. I could not stop listening and she had me on the edge of my seat. The way she made Belle sound so fierce and brave, amazing! I fell even more in love with the story.

Beast and the Beauty

In this version Isabell becomes the beast but love isn’t enough to save her. She encounters an archer that loves her despite what she looks like. They must battle the winter and the demon to save her from the curse.

Overall, I thought it was a good book! There were some parts where the pacing seemed a little off, but it was easy to over look. It’s a nice spicy spin on a classic. The FMC must find herself after trauma and I think the author handled it beautifully! The narrator was great, but I wish the audio clarity was consistent throughout.

Audio Quality

The audio was not good quality, there were times where it sounded like the narrator was reading through a plastic container, so muffled. There would be times it would be clear then muffled again. Other times you could hear a high pitched ringing and sometimes there would be an echo. Lines were repeated as if the narrator lost their place in the book and reread the line. Very slow paced as well, I usually read at x1.2 but I had this at a x1.5. Too many pauses in places where pauses were not necessary.
