If there’s one wizard Jackdaw can’t stand, it’s Merlin. So, when a letter arrives from the mage of mages, he assumes it brings bad news. Instead, he is allowed to host the annual Battle of the Bards competition in the Beandom, a feat that, if handled correctly, could cement his status as a premier prognosticator. But as the contestants file in, so does a strange, menacing darkness that casts a shadow over the proceedings.

With the help of his friends, Jackdaw tries to unravel a sinister plot brewing among the musicians to slaughter the competition and enslave the Beandom. Foiling this plot would also impress Merlin, but only if he can survive the Battle of the Bards.

I enjoyed this book as much as the others in the series. I liked how the festival brought together the characters who have populated this series. I felt for the two sweethearts. who had been parted from each other, still had an obstacle to their togetherness. I appreciated the humorous quips, dialogue, and situations which added to my enjoyment of the tale. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. The narrator, Kevin Perkins, was amazing, and his various voices for the different characters added to my enjoyment of the audiobook. His performance was awesome! I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

Michael D. Young delivers another entertaining tale in Battle of the Bards, blending humor, magic, and mayhem in the Beandom. Kevin Perkins brings each character to life with great personality, making the story even more enjoyable. I especially liked how Jackdaw’s rivalry with Merlin turned into a chaotic festival filled with music, danger, and clever twists.

Humor, magic, and mayhem in the Beandom!
