In book one, the StarShip Andromeda battled with an alien species called the Crillons. They came from a planet orbiting the star Kepler, more than 600 light-years from Earth. At the time, the humans were unaware that seven of the Crillon's Fleet Twelve battlecruisers were absent from the battle at Zeta Reticuli.
They eventually learn that the Fleet Twelve remnants still exist but don't know where it is located. With this knowledge, the humans are forced to disrupt the Crillon's natural wormhole to ensure that the rest of Fleet Twelve cannot travel through it or be reinforced if they can.
Later, knowing that the Crillons can't locate Earth, at least for the moment. Andromeda, who needed urgent repairs, managed to return home with the help of two new StarShips, the Illustrious and Derringer. And underwent a refit at the Mars spacedocks'

But they left, knowing that Fleet Twelve was somewhere and was still a threat. However, the proof that other races are in deep space gives more credence to Earth's dream of eventually creating a Galactic Empire.

Now, after an extensive warp exit field is recorded in the Delta Pavonis star system, twenty light-years from Earth. The Space Federation believes they've located the Crillon's Fleet Twelve remnants. So, Andromeda's newly enlarged fleet is sent back to Delta Pavonis to find and destroy the Crillon ships, then resume their search for the Acarea.

On reaching Delta Pavonis, things go from bad to worse around DPav4, one of the planets orbiting the Delta Pavonis star. DPav4 holds the key to the past and a frightening glimpse of the future, putting fear into both Crillon and Earth forces alike.
