Gripping and realistic story of domestic abuse of a wife and her children

A gripping and realistic story of what it is to live with an abuser – be it emotional physical or financial abuse. And, I would also caution those who will most likely pass judgment on the victim, by saying things such as, “well, why didn’t she just leave?” I can tell you a few reasons why – because often the first thing an abuser does is separate the victim from friends, family, or any other means of support. It is also hard to leave if you have a child under one year old and have no means of caring for that child nor escaping your situation because your abuser has also stripped you of any funds for transportation because “he” (in most but not all cases) has not granted you permission. this often happens because the abuser does not allow the victim to work and/or if the abuser does allow the victim to work they demand their paycheck. And if the victim does manage to leave, they often return to their abuser because he promises to “never do it again.“

As for the virtual voice, I almost decided not to listen to the story past the first chapter, because the virtual voice selected was so annoying that I didn’t know if I could listen to the full story. I would love it if Audible actually gave us the choice over which virtual voice we chose. I’m really glad that I stuck with this story despite the annoying voice, because I was ready to write it off after listening to the prologue/introduction/chapter.

Admittedly, I also skipped through the first few chapters because I had less interest in the background of the author, (which could’ve been explained in a paragraph so that the reader understood that this woman had been independent for a number of years), and just wanted to get to the point of the story/the title, which was how the narcissist baited and switched on the victim/author.
