Acerca de esta escucha

They were golden boys who killed with sudden savagery. The trial revealed a dark drama too evil to believe.

Handsome, rich, bronzed champion athletes, Erik and Lyle Menendez were the stunning symbols of the California dream. The sons of a high-powered Hollywood executive and his beautiful wife, they lived in a pampered world of Beverly Hills mansions, swimming pools, and private tennis coaches.

But the dream became a nightmare when police found the butchered bodies of the boys' parents, Jose and Kitty, in the family room of their five-million dollar mansion. Only days after the couple was laid to rest, the brothers began an appalling spending spree, buying Rolex watches, designer clothes and a new Porsche. Seven months later, all of Hollywood was stunned when the 18- and 21-year-old brothers were arrested for the horrendous killings.

In wrenching testimony, Lyle and Erik accused their father of sexually brutalizing then since they were children - claiming his sadistic acts of perversion and cruel violence drove them to their unspeakable crime.

Best-selling author Don Davis takes you inside one of the most riveting cases in California's history, laying to bare the shattering secrets of a tormented family.

Fascinating

Good story but you don't know the ending since they don't present the second trial.

Not bad, but ends before the second trial

Author Davis does a pretty good job of describing the murders of José and Kitty Menendez, as well as the family dynamic that probably helped to drive sons Lyle and Erik to commit those murders.

The truncated discussion of the case ends with the hung jury that concluded trial #1. Davis really owes it to the reading public to provide an update to events as they unfolded with Trial #2. The update could take the form of a brief summary and needn't be a lengthy examination of the second trial and subsequent appeals.

The writing is often precious and could have used a sharp red pencil. The month of June did not end, for example, but was torn from the calendar. Narrator Verner is a little over the top with his velvet tone and slow-paced delivery, and needs to check the pronunciation of words such as aberrant, (AB-er-rant, not a-BEAR-ant) and foreign language names such as Fuljencio deserve the effort required to check pronunciation.

So-So

Didn’t care for the reader. Story was draw out and tedious. Felt compelled to finish it, but don’t recommend it to anyone else.

Big Letdown

I have done a lot of research into the Menendez brothers. I know many take a stand against the Menendez brothers, and I respect differing opinions. As this account progressed, the bias was so strong that it was obvious I was listening to more fiction than fact.

Biased strongly against Lyle and Eric

This book is biased against the brothers and their attorneys.
The author continually points out that no one witnessed the SA. I’m not expert, but that’s not something typically done out in the open.

He attempts to paint the psychologist in a positive light, calling him “good looking” TWICE in this book.

Narrator pronounces names incorrectly, which is irritating.

Save your money.
