Mama J's Blue Ridge Mountain Down Home Cooking With the invention of modern cooking methods and equipment the true art of skillful food preparation has been lost. We no longer accept the fact that in order to prepare a great meal you must spend copious amounts of time in the kitchen planning, preparing and then actually taking the time to add love, care and tenderness as you cook for your family or friends. Because our lives seem now to always be set in 'high-speed' mode we've lost the intimacy of food preparation. We don't remember what it was like to spend the day in the kitchen baking, boiling, frying and in general immersing ourselves in the artful delights of cooking. To me that is a sad thing as I have always enjoyed getting up at the break of dawn to prepare meals that I know will be enjoyed as everyone in the family sits and actually takes the time to eat as opposed to gulping down micro-wave prepared or canned processed food and then heading for the door. If you've lost the art of cooking then you've lost a huge part of what it means to be "family." To enjoy a meal there must be around you those you love and who love you in return. They will appreciate your efforts and tell you so either by the satisfied look on their faces or by reaching for the pan for just one more heaping helping.
