This is a story about a young black boy, Isaiah Washington, and his family. Isaiah lives in a small town in Florida. One night while returning home from the store, young Isaiah was stopped by the police. He was nervous and failed to respond to their commands was taken down so he was taken down to the ground in a carotid neck restraint and subsequently died. This is also the story of the police officer, Ken Reardon and his family. Ken was charged with the murder of Isaiah Washington.

The case becomes national news. There are nightly demonstrations in support of both Isaiah and the police. Jack Tobin, a famous trial lawyer, undertakes to represent Ken Reardon, while the state brings in a top-notch lawyer from Tallahassee.
