Students abandon advanced maths despite STEM push

More than 8,000 students dropped HSC Advanced Mathematics in 2025, with approximately one-third quitting between Year 11 and Year 12. Business Studies and Chemistry have also experienced significant declines, as students increasingly opt out before their final year.
