It wasn’t old, it didn’t have a history, and nothing about it stood out as unusual. For a long time, it was just another place people lived without thinking twice about it.

Until something appeared. At first, it looked normal. Familiar, even. The kind of thing you wouldn’t question in the moment because it made sense as soon as you saw it.

That was the problem. Because when it stopped making sense, it wasn’t because it looked wrong. It was because it was almost right.
