Major fire engulfs Geelong oil refinery

A major fire has broken out at the Viva oil refinery near Geelong, one of only two remaining oil refineries in Australia. The blaze, which started around 11:15pm with explosions sending flames up to 60 metres high, remains out of control more than six hours later, with 50 firefighters battling the inferno in the MoGas unit area. The refinery processes approximately 120,000 barrels of crude oil daily, and the incident occurs during a period of significant pressure on Australia's fuel stocks.
