This collection of essays and notes on Peru covers a series of subjects ranging from the Moche culture of the north of the country, passing through the Inca empire of Tahuantinsuyo and continuing to the Spanish conquest and the vice-regal period. The mysterious ceque system of the Incas continues to attract the attention of archaeologists and historians. The role of women in pre-Hispanic Peru and after the conquest has sometimes been overlooked, yet here it can be seen as being of great importance. Printing in Peru goes back to the 16th century, with texts in Spanish, Quechua and Aymara, some of them authentic literary treasures.
