At some point, every family faces the same difficult question: when is it time for an older driver to stop driving? For this episode, I take on one of the most uncomfortable—and unavoidable—conversations around mobility, independence, and safety.
We explore the real-world factors that make this decision so challenging, from declining reaction times to the emotional weight of taking away someone’s freedom. But the issue doesn’t stop there. In rural areas, where public transportation is limited or nonexistent, losing the ability to drive can mean losing access to basic necessities, social connections, and quality of life.
This episode goes beyond the question of “when” and digs into the deeper reality: what happens next when driving is no longer an option—and no good alternatives exist?
