Conceived, developed, and run by TransMissions Podcast producer and editor Michael Ordway (@minervion), this podcast combines the tabletop role playing game (RPG) experience (think Dungeons and Dragons) with the setting, universe, and characters of the Transformers into an actual play podcast. Each episode records the gaming sessions as the player characters experience the adventures planned and designed by the game master (GM). The RPG system being used is based on Starfinder, a sci-fi variant of Pathfinder, combined with elements of the Transformers-themed Mechamorphosis d20 system (more info here). Empire of Rust takes place in the IDW Comics Transformers Universe that ran from 2005 to 2018. It is set at the beginning of the "First Strike" storyline that was published in 2017. But while the starting point is based on the events of the first issue of First Strike - where Earth is being inducted into the Cybertronian Council of Worlds - the story of Empire of Rust will be very different. So if you've read the comics, don't think you know what's going to happen! The players have all created original Transformer characters to take part in this adventure, but they're sure to encounter some familiar faces in their adventures on Cybertron, and beyond.
