Dogs don't live that long. How many years do you want to struggle or have to manage your dog just to avoid a correction that is typically a split second? That's what people do, though. And there's a reason. It's all the bologna that is out there on the internet.
That's why people are better at building behaviors (which is much more difficult) than stopping behaviors (which is SIMPLE). Why is it everyone I meet needs help with stopping behaviors when that is the EASY part of training?
People worry. But maybe we should not just worry about all the stuff we read online and how we are "stressing" our dogs or hurting our relationship. Maybe we should worry about our actual reality. How much time are you going to let slip away? And if your dog is dangerous, eventually what is going to happen when management fails?
Recognize the complexity of what you are asking your dog for. Are you asking them to execute something complex or are you asking them NOT to execute something? One is much easier than the other, and there's no reason to struggle and suffer with such things for years when everything you want is so attainable.
