Saturday brings similar moderate rip current risk and 5-foot surf, but conditions improve slightly with partly sunny skies and scattered showers. East winds stay light at 5 to 10 miles per hour.

Moving eastward along the north shore, our Northeast Puerto Rico zone including Rio Grande, Luquillo, Fajardo and Humacao also has moderate rip current risk today with 5-foot surf and scattered showers. Saturday the surf drops to around 4 feet with mostly cloudy skies and numerous showers developing. Both days feature east winds around 10 miles per hour.

The North Central coast from Arecibo to Dorado maintains moderate rip current risk with 5-foot surf both today and tomorrow. Saturday looks mostly sunny despite scattered showers, while today stays mostly cloudy. Winds remain light at 5 to 15 miles per hour.

Our Northwest Puerto Rico beaches in Aguadilla, Camuy, Isabela and Quebradillas show moderate rip current risk with 5-foot surf and partly sunny conditions today, improving to mostly sunny tomorrow. East winds strengthen to 10 to 15 miles per hour Saturday.

Down on the west side, Mayaguez and Rincon area expects moderate rip current risk with 4-foot surf and mostly sunny conditions early today before clouds increase. Scattered showers develop throughout the day. Saturday stays partly sunny with similar 4-foot surf and light 5 mile per hour east winds.

The southern coast tells a different story. Our Southwest Puerto Rico beaches including Cabo Rojo and Guanica show low rip current risk with smaller 3-foot surf. Today is sunny early, becoming mostly cloudy with numerous showers. Saturday maintains low rip current risk with only 3-foot surf and similar shower activity.

Ponce and vicinity also features low rip current risk with 3-foot surf today and tomorrow. Sunny early becoming mostly cloudy with numerous showers expected. Southeast Puerto Rico beaches near Guayama and Yabucoa have low rip current risk and 3-foot surf both days with mostly sunny skies and scattered showers.

Looking ahead to the extended period, all regions experience similar weather patterns through the weekend. Sunday brings partly to mostly sunny skies with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Surf heights drop slightly to 2 to 4 feet depending on location. Northeast winds increase to around 10 to 15 miles per hour.

By Tuesday, conditions become more interesting as a system approaches from the northeast. Surf heights increase significantly across the board. Northern areas could see 8 to 9-foot surf, while southern areas only manage 2 to 3 feet. Northeast winds strengthen to 15 to 20 miles per hour. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms continue.

For our Virgin Islands friends, St Thomas and St John see moderate rip current risk today with 4-foot surf and mostly sunny skies turning mostly cloudy Saturday with numerous showers. St Croix also maintains moderate rip current risk with 4-foot surf. Both islands experience similar patterns through the week with conditions improving Sunday and Monday before strengthening again Tuesday.

Bottom line: enjoy the next few days with manageable conditions and scattered showers. Exercise caution around groins, jetties and reefs where rip currents can develop even during low risk periods. Come Tuesday, a more significant swell arrives with stronger winds and larger surf, so stay tuned for updates.
