Sydney bishop promoted to Vatican's top legal role

Sydney Bishop Anthony Randazzo has been appointed as the Vatican's top legal expert, promoted to Archbishop to advise Pope Leo on Catholic law. The Broken Bay Diocese bishop, an expert in canon law, will relocate to Rome in three months to take up the position. He is the first Australian to fill a senior Vatican role since Cardinal George Pell, who died in 2023.
