In the Executive Perspective episode 57, Ron and Rob will delve into the recent New York Post article that highlights the significant number of NYPD members with over 20 years of service who are eligible for retirement. They will explore Mayor Mamdani’s plan to drastically reduce overtime, which could impact their pension totals and potentially force these officers to retire to secure their financial future.

Furthermore, they will discuss the ongoing decline in morale within the NYPD under Mayor Mamdani’s leadership. This decline is attributed to his anti-police rhetoric and lack of support, particularly in light of three major incidents that occurred within the first 2.5 months of his tenure. These incidents include:

  • The officer involved shooting where Mayor Mamdani visited the subject who charged the officers with a knife and urged the Queens District Attorney not to press charges.
  • The “Snowball Gate” incident where Mayor Mamdani refused to acknowledge that officers were attacked by a crowd and pursued them down the street.
  • The lack of appearances and support from Mayor Mamdani for officers following the ISIS-inspired bomb attempt near Gracie Mansion.

They will also examine whether these incidents will lead to an increase in retirements.

Ron and Rob will provide their executive perspective on a recent viral video of an officer punching a handcuffed subject. They will analyze whether the use of force was justified or excessive and discuss the potential determinations made by the Duty Inspector and Duty Chief in such a situation.
