Alice and Fred Hamrick, her happily married adoptive parents, had desperately wanted a child. For six years, and through multiple visits to doctors and fertility clinics, the prognosis was not only disheartening but always the same: Alice would never be able to have a child of her own. After finally accepting this reality, they embarked on a three-year quest to adopt a baby girl. Despite losing their dream of a large family, their love for each other remained unshakable.

Then, a miraculous opportunity developed within their Pt. Mountain Church community.

An unmarried 16 year-old church member, with an unwanted pregnancy, desired that a church member adopt her unborn child. The girl had been brutally raped by a college basketball player while on spring break.

Even though the girl had no relatives than wanted the child, overcoming the legal hurdles of adoption were challenging. But after several agonizing months, their prayers were finally answered when the church attorney intervened.
With the help of this shrewd attorney, Fred and Alice were able to legally adopt a healthy infant just days after her birth. They named her MacKenzie after Alice’s Scottish grandmother, and Alice and Fred were overjoyed to welcome this baby girl into their lives.
