בהשתדלות כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שיהי' "זרעו בחיים" מצינו ב' קצוות מן הקצה אל הקצה: הוא תבע בתוקף (מאלו השייכים) דרגות נעלות ביותר בעבודת ה', ובאותו זמן פעל עם אלו שלא היו שייכים לשום דבר רק להזכירם על היותם יהודים; ולכן ראו "במדינה ההיא" שפעל בבת-אחת, ובאותה התלהבות ומסירות נפש, שיהודי בפינה נדחת ידע קריאת א"ב ובפינה אחרת ילמדו חסידות במשך כל הלילה דליל שישי! ועד"ז כאשר הגיע לארצות-הברית היתה העבודה בב' הקצוות: באתו זמן שייסד ישיבה שבה ילמדו חסידות וכו' דאג שילמדו א"ב עם אותם ילדים מבתי-ספר עממיים שאינם מקבלים שום חינוך דתי וכו'! והיא הנותנת: מכיון שהעבודה והרגש הזולת שיהי' "זרעו בחיים" הי' חדור עם עצם הנפש, שמסר חייו על זה, לא יכול להיות בזה שום חשבון דשכל, ולכן זה לא הי' משנה מה היו צריכים לפעול על הזולת, דבר נעלה ביותר או פשוט ביותר – ברגע שמדובר אודות יהודי, נמשך "העצם אל העצם" והתמסר לזה במס"נ ו"מצוה – בגדול" [המשך יבוא].

Synopsis

In the efforts of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, to ensure that his “offspring is alive,” we find two opposite extremes: On the one hand, he firmly demanded from those connected to him the highest levels of Divine service, and at the same time, he worked with those who had to even be reminded that they are Jews. This is why we saw in Russia that he worked on sending a melamed to one faraway place to teach Alef-Beis at the same time and with the same enthusiasm and mesiras nefesh as his work to ensure that Chassidim in a different community would study Chassidus the entire Thursday night. Similarly, when he arrived in the United States, the work was in both extremes: He founded a yeshivah where Chassidus would be studied in depth etc., and at the same time, he worked to ensure that public school children who had received no Jewish education at all would be taught Alef-Beis. And they both go together: Since his work and concern for others was imbued with the essence of his soul and he gave his life for it, there was no room for making logical calculations. Therefore, it didn’t matter what needed to be done for another Jew; as long as it involved another Jew, the “essence was drawn to the essence” and he devoted himself to it with mesiras nefesh (and when it comes to saving a life, it is a mitzvah for it to be done by a leader of the Jewish people).
