"אדם כי יקריב מכם קרבן להוי' מן הבהמה מן הבקר ומן הצאן וגו' [ריש פ' ויקרא]. בכל אדם יש בחי' זרע אדם וזרע בהמה, שהוא נפה"א ונפה"ב, ופי' אדם כי יקריב וגו' הוא, שבחי' "אדם", נפה"א, מקריב ומעלה את בחי' ה"בהמה", נפה"ב. ועוד זאת, שקרבן זה פועל עילוי גם בבחי' אדם עצמו. ויש לקשר זה עם מאמרי רבותינו נשיאנו ד"ה פדה בשלום נפשי מקרב לי וגו', דתוכן מלחמה זו היא מלחמת נפה"א עם נפה"ב, שנפה"א "תקרב" את נפה"ב. וגם האדם עצמו מתעלה עי"ז – "פדה בשלום נפשי". ובאופן של "שלום" דקאי על לימוד (פנימיות) התורה. "מן הבקר" – בחי' שמאל וגבורה, העבודה ד"לעולם ירגיז אדם וכו'". "מן הצאן" – התעוררות רחמים רבים לפני ה' על נפשו וכו' ע"י ההתבוננות במעמדו ומצבו הפרטי. "מן העוף", ששרש העופות הוא מ"פני נשר" שהוא רחמני, מדת הרחמים שאינה מתעוררת ע"י התבוננות (כב"צאן") אלא מצד העצם שבו.

Synopsis

The verse states (at the beginning of parashas Vayikra), “When a person brings from you a korban to Hashem…from animals, from cattle or from the flock …”: The “person” inside a Jew (the G-dly soul) brings and elevates the “animal” (the animal soul), and this elevates not only the animal, but also the person (the G‑dly soul) itself. This relates to maamarim of our Rebbeim on the verse, “He redeemed my soul in peace from the battle against me…”: The “battle” is the struggle between the G-dly soul and the animal soul, where the G-dly soul brings the animal soul as an offering. As a result, the “soul is “redeemed in peace,” meaning the G-dly soul itself is elevated, and in a manner of peace, which refers to the study of (the inner dimension of) Torah. “From cattle” represents the attribute of gevurah, the service “inciting the good inclination against the evil inclination.” “From the flock” represents awakening abundant compassion before Hashem upon one’s soul, by contemplating one’s state and condition. “From birds” (which are derived from “the face of the eagle,” which is compassionate) represents the compassion that is not awakened through contemplation, but which stems from one’s very essence.
